Which ELT Journal do you think is the best in Turkey? This questionaire is open to comments on condition that they are in English and is intended to present an all-round evaluation of the journals in order to reflect the readers opinions and expectations for those who work for herementioned publishers in the hope that they might benefit from these comments. No bias, no ill-will is intended. Thanks for your contributions.

I think the vocabularies in ELS are the most useful ones and you can improve your general knowledge with its passages because they contain whatever you can think

but Dilko is at YDS level.its questions I think are the closest to YDS :)

I have used all them in my classes both at school and at course , and I m still using some of them .Here is what I think about each;

ELS = Although it was pretty difficult for YDS students and a bit more difficult than YDS itself at first ,with its renewed form now, it is the best choice for me.
It has always been easy to get and it still is and the owners are such kind people that they even send just one packet to a school although they most probably know that the issues will be copied per student . But unfortunately as it is available everywhere , you can not use it at a language course. I wish they would publish special series for language courses.

YDS = I wouldn't recommend it ,especially not for self-study because answer keys usually have problems and some kind of exercises in grammar books don t serve a YDS student's needs . Its exams are much more difficult than its materials used in class, and this year I myself have seen that the same reading book ,the one published and sold last year has been sold to people with its cover being changed as if it were 2007-2008 journal.Of course every journal does it, that is , they sell previous year's source but while buying you know that you buy last year's . And we have experienced here , the people working for it or the owners themselves are not very kind. What makes them have a place in this sector is that their financial back up is incredibly strong.(The name chosen ,in fact ,tells a lot about how politic things can be ...)

NetYDS = In fact one of my favorites, but not for YDS students.If you want to explore English, get NetYDS .The questions are a lot more difficult than YDS itself and the questions are not very similar to the ones asked in YDS and sometimes you are taken through so many unusual details that you feel it is not suitable for YDS.Most English teachers complain about it because it is a burden to teachers.The people behind it are also kind .

Dilko = For me it comes after ELS , sometimes a bit easier than YDS but suddenly with its tricky questions one out of 15 or so, it wakes students up and the service is wonderful.

Karacan = It is OK to give a start but not after that .

I wish we could see some others' opinions too because this is a very important topic for us and for students:smiley9:

To me ELS is the best of all those mentioned above because there is almost no margin of error in its questions and native speakers help to prepare questions, which is really important. Its questions are meticulously prepared, in short it is enough for self-study alone

Karacan, I think, is second to ELS.As far as I know, Professors prepare its questions and subjects are presented in a different method, functional approach but its questions are realy hard compared to ELS and unfortunately Karacan is not careful about answer key

I didn't have the oppurtunity to study Dilko a lot but I think it is not bad and its questions may be said to be good

I can't say anything about YDS and Netyds because I have never studied them

I changed the topic title to "YDS journal" as this is more appropriate to the core theme. I prefer ELS. Why? More reliable, less typos, theirs is a persnickety job, or so I think they put an impression on me.

Of course I prefer ELS for my students, but, I think, sometimes DİLKO can be of use.
