Tam Sürüm Bilgini Göster : Universities in Turkey way behind their counterparts
Spartakus 11th September 2007, 10:59 Do you agree that universities in Turkey are way behind their European counterparts? Why do you think Turkish scientists at universities don't have their voice abroad, in the scientific arena-as some people think?
franglais 11th September 2007, 11:09 Yes generally i agree with you .But there are various reasons for that result.firstly we have not developed country and that effects all the instutions in our country.in other words to be developed or under-developed is the primary factor effecting whole nation and its economy, education, politics, health and so on.
franglais 11th September 2007, 11:18 please you can clear the meaning of 'way behind' phrase?
franglais 11th September 2007, 11:27 actually our country is advanced in social sciences rather than natural sciences.İn history, sociology, literature we have well-beloved scientists.

To me, Turkey, itself is way behind its counterparts in both scientific arena and medicine. The loss of bright scientists, trained engineers and talented doctors can be counted as the major reason for this regression. This is called brain drain. Therefore, we should specifically focus on this subject and then talk why we have no voice or little voice in abroad.
Muttalipisidan 11th September 2007, 12:35 cos they cant find time to do scientific search because they are very active in politics and many other unncessary things so no time for scientific searches
Spartakus 11th September 2007, 13:25 Most universities complain that they are not subsidized well enough to do scientific research projects. Do you agree?
SunRise 11th September 2007, 13:34 I'm sorry but I want to ask something about the phrase that has been mentioned here.
Can we use the phrase of ''CATCH UP WITH'' as an antonym for ''BE WAY BEHIND''?
Tnx a lot!

Ekin 11th September 2007, 19:00 Well, at least, three of the top ten universities in the Middle East according to Webometrics are Bilkent, METU and Boğaziçi. :) Israeli universities are now considered to be European, so Turkey is left alone in the list. :D

Usually some of our scientists are stealing and picking researchs that even worse than faking. And for this subject has a meaningful word.it is 'intihal or aşırma'
Ekin 12th September 2007, 01:11 It is 'intihal or aşırma'.
And the English word for it is "plagiarism". :)
harpocrates 12th September 2007, 02:05 And the English word for it is "plagiarism". :)

Umit Hoca 12th September 2007, 02:18 The system is crap i believe, we are the ones who will try to change it and improve our education system. It is all based on memorizing things but we must focus on learning things and experiencing. I know there are lots of English teachers but they can't educate anyone don't misunderstand me im not telling that im the right one, i also have problems but at least i try to change them. but when i look at our professors they are not like us i believe younger generation is better than a professor who is 70 years old this must be changed i think
franglais 12th September 2007, 11:37 Last night in the news has similar accusations about 15 scientific articles that considered to be fake.Among them has also very reputable universities.

In order to prevent plagirism and flourishing corruption in education, the rules and detailed principles should be laid down. Even penal sanction should be applied to those who attempt plagirism.

I dont think those things can always be done by rules, it must be about our personality I mean when it comes to word we say "1 Turk dunyaya bedel" but in reality when we can find something easier we always choose that, this is also same on who plagirite things from other maybe if they try they can produce better things but they find a easier way, which i call Turkish way, we just do it without thinking...
