Tam Sürüm Bilgini Göster : Whats the point of drinking alcohol?
dante000 9th September 2007, 01:59 This is the subject I'm interested.I don't understand why people drink alcohol?!?
For example when people feel sorrowful, they go to the bar(meyhane) and drink alcohol. Why?If they drink it, will it help them to solve problems? If there is a (emotional) problem, wouldn't it be better to consult a psychiatrist?Or when people celebrate things, they drink alcohol. Why?If you drink, you will be drunk. If you are drunk, then you will barely control yourself. If you barely control yourself, you won't exactly feel your feelings.Plus, it affects brain system by killing brain cells. So,I don't understand why?!???!
Tercan Değerli 9th September 2007, 02:31 It is neccesary to go and ask those who drink:) There are an awful lot of reasons for drinking: those who sorrowful drink in order to forget, but I can't think why those who celebrate something drink:)

I think alchol and other narcotic substances numb people's nerves and we dont care of life thanks to these :stretch:

not thanks to these but because of these:)
PS: It is not a grammatical correction; do not misunderstand. Just to go on discussing:)

You are right. "Thanks to" means "because of" but it can be used in a sarcastic way as well.
It's thanks to Sandy that I heard about the job.
DISAPPROVING The baby is awake thanks to your shouting. CAMBRIDGE
The second one exemplifies what I mean.
DivingDeep 9th September 2007, 13:36 drinking alcohol isn't a solution to forget sorrowful things or be better.besides,if some people are happy they can drink alcohol and one asks why you are drinking "because our happiest day" they can say but i think it is just a cover(bahane).we surely know that both alcohol and cigarette is a real cause of illness even death...
zanay 9th September 2007, 13:42 To forget hurtful things..i think
Muttalipisidan 9th September 2007, 14:22 well i dont like people who take alcohol but for example can u do without internet what u feel when connection dropped it can be similar people also get accustomed to drinking it then cant do without drinking
AnGel 9th September 2007, 14:29 I think its a way of escaping from problems.Maybe they think that they forget all the happens. But, no.. If you have problems noone can solve it but you! People also drink to be able to make mistakes.I know it sounds weird but if you are drunk and make mistakes its acceptable.Noone can blame you because you are not sober. As for celebrations , people drink because at celebrations craziness wake inside. You want to do sth crazy but you can't do it when you are sober. If you are drunk you don't care anything around you.If you ask me there's no point! Its just selfishness..
Lavinia 9th September 2007, 14:37 I think alcohol is the mother of all badnesses. As our prophet said: "Alkol bütün kötülüklerin anasıdır."
So there is no reason to drink alcohol. Because it creates new problems instead of forgetting problems.

harpocrates 9th September 2007, 15:41 I drink for fun.
Saposcat 9th September 2007, 15:50 If there is a (emotional) problem, wouldn't it be better to consult a psychiatrist?
Psychiatrists are a lot more expensive than alcohol, and whether or not they will get "results" is just as uncertain.
Or when people celebrate things, they drink alcohol. Why?
Why do people dance when they celebrate? Why do people sing when they celebrate? I would say it is because they find it enjoyable.
So, why do people drink when they celebrate? Because they find it enjoyable.
If you are drunk, then you will barely control yourself.
Not necessarily true at all. Some can control themselves when drunk; some can't.
dante000 9th September 2007, 20:38 (no offense)

Alcohol can't solve any problem. But psychiatrists can solve. And if someone often drinks alcohol,he/she will (probably) become addicted. And that would cost both health problems and money.
Not necessarily true at all. Some can control themselves when drunk; some can't.
You're wrong. If they could control themselves, traffic accidents, car crashes wouldn't happen.
Funda_DELT 9th September 2007, 20:42 Why ??? Hmm Maybe Just To Show Off :) Lol
Muttalipisidan 9th September 2007, 20:47 Arkadaşlar burda bir hikaye anlatacam adamın biri bir gün meyhanede gereğinden fazla alkol almış tabi kalkmış yola koyulmuş sallana sallana yolda giderken kendini kaybetmiş ve kaldırımın kenarına düşmüş sonra ordan geçen bir köpek sarhoşun üzerine pislemiş sarhoşda farkında değil tabi ve sarhoş başlamış köpeğe duaya Allah razı olsun senden elimi yüzümü yıkadın beni bir güzel ısıttın demiş işte alkolun eğlencesi eğer eğlence buysa buyrun hep beraber içelim

Drinking, as with every extreme habit, is for sure harmful for health. But drinking doesn't mean only an activity that we do when in the doldrums. It is a way of socializing as well. Unless one goes to extremes, being a social drinker may help him pave the way for good friendships, enjoy a good gathering, having fun. Talking from experience; most of the time people who drink are more honest when they are pissed than they are sober. 0f course this is not a eulogy to alcoholism, it's my humble opinion. What about smoking? Why don't you ask the same question for smokers. Smoking is more harmful than my Rakı.
poika- 9th September 2007, 21:00 'A: Why do you drink ?

A: Why do you drink?
B: Because i am happy '
* they(dialogues) arent my thoughts ,
Drinking causes you to lose your control
Plus , drinking is forbidden in Islam too ,
And there have to be strict rules about selling to whom is under 18 , and also about cigarette too.
franglais 9th September 2007, 21:05 That is just your opinion. But everbody has different thougts, beliefs or tastes .That's way if only everybody did what is known true, healty or so .After all almost everyone knows these things but does them . The world that we want never will be perfect...
Lavinia 9th September 2007, 21:29 Psychiatrists are a lot more expensive than alcohol, and whether or not they will get "results" is just as uncertain.
I think, drinking until being an alcoholic is a lot more expensive. Because the (his/her) life is not so cheap (than psychotherapy). But you're right, they think (maybe don't think) that alcohol is more cheaper for "a moment".
Saadet Çadır 9th September 2007, 21:53 Anything USED, OWNED, LIVED, CONSUMED, DRUNK, EATEN , FELT or LOVED blah blah TOO MUCH is dangerous let alone alcohol, isn t it? ;)

i completely agree with you:)
Saposcat 9th September 2007, 22:10 You're wrong. If they could control themselves, traffic accidents, car crashes wouldn't happen.
This doesn't prove my statement wrong. It actually supports it, because—after all—not everyone who drinks gets behind the wheel of a car and causes an accident. Only some do.
serhatavci 9th September 2007, 22:50 To be quite honest-though I have not drunk any beverage so far- these questions should be handled in a different way.God grant us the greatest stuff-brain-with which all men more or less can think.
Besides,i suggest you to narrow the limits of the question. In which way should we handle this question-social,psychological,or religional way? This simple thing will help us much more,I think.
Spartakus 9th September 2007, 22:55 In which way should we handle this question-social,psychological,or religional way? This simple thing will help us much more,I think.
The sky is the limit. Only avoid brusque dialogues, that's all
BBTÜRKAY 9th September 2007, 23:28 Once upon a time l used to be a bartender.
l used to drink a lot.
In a day of my drinking time:
In the morning 5 bottles of beer, 5 bottles of white wine and 5 five botlles of Zafer Gazoz (Sprite-lamonade not limonata)
It usually was drunk by the afternoon.
In the evening 1 bottle of Scotch.
When l was 19 l quit/gave up drinking.
l have still (very close) fellows who drinks.
l love them.
l do not drink because my religion says not to do.
But l do not judge them by drinking.
Two years ago one of my friend came and told me that l hated him because he drinks alcohol
l asked, how come?
He said: "You used to be a drinker but not now,
and after you become a non drinker which makes you hate us.
l just smiled at him and called one of our friend whom l had a word a few minutes ago and asked him what l had told about him (the person who blamed me as a hater).
He told him that l love him and l think he is a good man and never mention about his drinking habit.
Most of the people who drinks alcohol they are nice people and they are human beings as we are.
Please keep on respect them and do not tell any kind of rules.
If they are over limit please help them and save them but respect them.
If they ask your opinion about alcohol be honest!
Honesty is the key to keep your friendship.

You're right, sharing your sorrow, is the best way, don't escape from your problems, drinking not a solve!, when you drink, you can forget bad things and problems for a while, ok, but then ?... :)
harpocrates 10th September 2007, 04:29 When a person is drunk he tells everything that he thinks...
That sometimes good. No lies ;)
harpocrates 10th September 2007, 04:38 You're right, sharing your sorrow, is the best way, don't escape from your problems, drinking not a solve!, when you drink, you can forget bad things and problems for a while, ok, but then ?... :)
Then you sleep and wake up, then drink again.
Then be under alcohol's effect every second.
And one Ramadan day you realise that you should stop this because you admit that you are an alcoholic. Thinking more religiously, that day you just give up drinking. You forswear. But because your body is used to it and it wants, you have an heart attack.
Just like my dad. Rest in peace.
Hope this will be a life lesson for some people.
IcySeden 10th September 2007, 05:14 there's no danger if it's not overdone.but in exaggeration it becomes an addiction which constraits the freedom of body and mind of course..the alcoholics always curses the alcohol but keep drinking as well because of their body's desire for alcohol.
